| Volunteers are very important to us. The contribution you can make with the gift of your time is huge. We hoe this page will answer some of the questions you may have about voluteering with Daisy's Eye Cancer Fund | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Q. What kind of volunteering activities can I become involved with? A. People can volunteer with Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund in many different ways. How you volunteer will depend on what you would like to do and the amount of time you are able to give. Most volunteering opportunities relate to our essential fundraising activities, but you could also help with other activities, such as admin work or website development. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities. Q. Will I receive any training? A. This will vary, depending on the type of volunteering you choose. All training relevant to your voluntary role will be provided free of charge, and you will receive regular supervision – an informal chat to discuss how you are getting on, and any concerns you may have. Q. How much time would I be expected to give? A. This will vary, depending on the type of volunteering you choose. You could offer just a few hours to help at one of our two annual campaigns, or you could give one day a week to help us organise and co-ordinate activities. Q. Will I be expected to make a regular commitment? A. We are entirely flexible about the time you offer to Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund, appreciating that many people have commitments and interests which prevent regular volunteering. We can talk with you about the possibilities, and then you can decide how much time you are able to give, and which times best suit you. Q. Will I be required to handle money? A. This will depend on the nature of your voluntary role. If you are helping at a fundraising event, you may be required to collect ticket fees or other monies. However, you will never work alone in this capacity. There are many ways in which you can help, and you are free to choose those opportunities you feel most comfortable with. Q. Will it cost me any money to volunteer? A. Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund will provide any resources you need in your capacity as a volunteer. We are able to reimburse out-of-pocket travel expenses for regular volunteers who work for more than four hours per day. Q. Will you provide refreshments? A. All Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund events will have a hospitality space where volunteers are able to enjoy refreshments and a relaxing break. Q. Does volunteering affect benefit payments? A. Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Income Support and Job Seekers Allowance are not affected in any way by voluntary work. However, if you are receiving Job Seekers Allowance, you must continue to be actively seeking paid work, in addition to your voluntary work. You should let your Job Centre know about your volunteering commitments, as they are required to provide you with more notice when calling you to an interview. If you incur expenses in the process of your voluntary work, our refund to you will not affect your benefit payments. Q. Do I need to provide references or sign any forms? A. This will vary, depending on the type of volunteering you do, and we can provide you with more information about this. If you are likely to be handling money, we will ask for a reference. If your role is likely to bring you into contact with children, you will be required to sign a criminal records disclosure form. All information provided about you will remain confidential. Q. Will I be asked to attend an interview? A. We like to get to know potential volunteers at an informal chat. This may be a telephone conversation or a face-to-face meeting. Our questions will vary according to the voluntary work you express an interest in. However, you van expect to be asked some of the following questions. Why are you interested in volunteering with us? What types of voluntary work would you like to become involved with? What skills do you feel you could offer to Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund? Are you hoping to develop any new skills through voluntary work? What skills are these?? How much time would you be able to offer Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund? This meeting also enables you to meet us and ask any questions that you may have about volunteering with Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund. For example, you may wish to enquire about expenses, training and supervision or further support. If you still have more questions, please feel free to contact us by email at volunteers@daisyseyecancerfund.org, or give us a call on 01865 243654. |
