| Travel With Purpose: What's It Like? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The only way to experience the awesome adventure, exhilaration and fun of a world challenge is to sign-up for one yourself. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| However, here is a little taster of what it’s like. Over 6 days In June 2005, Abby White trekked 110km across Northern Tanzania's sun baked wild game country to raise money for Daisy's Fund. |

| Abby wrote the following poem about her trek. Over the Plains to Lengai 10 ladies, one man (are we more than he can cope with?) Fundraising done. No more training here - Now the work begins. Well met at Heathrow – ready to go to Africa. To trace the footsteps of the Maasai for a vital cause. In Arusha Town our plane sets down. Unveiled by cloud, Kili’s majestic snow-capped peak bids us all good luck. An infinite sky, clear blue and high, lets spirits soar. Thorn trees sing an encouraging tune. The world is with us! Loose scree slopes test us. Breezes soothe us. Upward we climb, to a seamless view across the plains - those plains we shall cross. Onward we will push. Tracks through the bush - red sun burnt earth - rolling back time to a simple life. The wanderer’s way. Maasai children smile, Shy souls beguile. Giggle with glee as their pictures appear on the screens of alien toys. They come by our camp – know who we are, and wish us well. We are invited to their Boma, to see how they live. Nomadic herdsmen. Cattle, God-sent. Warriors still. Conceding not to worlds beyond their plain Traditions live strong. We walk for a week. Blistering heat and aching limbs cannot stop our drive to reach the goal - the sacred Lengai. Water is priceless. The shade calls “rest”. These luxuries which pass us by in the world we know. We move too fast there. When tired minds reel, a fresh cooked meal. China and glass echoing the way of Finch Hattan all those years ago. Showers by starlight. Campfire night. Sounds in the dark. Great animals of the Savanna roam around us still. Semi-desert last. These plains are vast No shade or breeze to refresh and ease the final leg - but ahead is Lengai. The noble mountain, High cloud crowns him. A godly sight for we who have walked so far to see. Our challenge is done! Friends we all have made. Focussed we’ve stayed. Stood together, Encouraging one another through - Pole, Rafiki! [slowly, friend] Not a cross word heard. Laughter we’ve shared. Daily we’ve won great and small challenges to be here, to achieve success. Safari time now. We party – and how! Celebration. “Hakuna Matata” we all sing, ["no worries"] and the champagne flows. When ready to drop, refuse to stop. We have conquered! Be proud, be proud, all who have been there. We have helped change lives. Don’t just go on holiday... ...Go on an adventure!
