| A Global Response to Childhood Retinoblastoma |

Our Mission Our History Patrons DECF International SickKids Hospital |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Every 57 minutes, a child is diagnosed with retinoblastoma eye cancer. Most of these children live in economically less developed countries. Despite near 100% cure rates with modern treatment, 80% of affected children will die. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Retinoblastoma is a highly curable cancer. Children do not die from tumours contained within the eye, but from cancer which has spread due to a lack of timely and adequate madical care In 2000, the Charter of Paris was adopted during the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium. This Charter acknowledges that "lives can and will be saved by increased access to existing technologies". It calls for “an invincible alliance – between researchers, healthcare professionals, patients, governments, industry and media – to fight cancer and its greatest allies, which are fear, ignorance and complacency.” Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund is the world's only retinoblastoma charity taking a global approach to the needs of children affected by this cancer. We are dedicated to improving care, and access to that care, for all children with retinoblastoma, regardless of their personal circumstances. Our Mission Daisy's Eye Cancer Fund is working to prepare for a day when no child faces death from retinoblastoma. We: |

| Promote equal access to early diagnosis and advanced treatment Raise funds for awareness campaigns, research, specialized training of medical personnel, and initiatives that enable access to timely specialized care for affected children. Educate the public and health care professionals about retinoblastoma.. Protect the physical and mental health of children and families affected by retinoblastoma. Advance access to information about retinoblastoma for affected families.. Relieve burdens on families who have children undergoing treatment. Establish self-sustaining, locally-administered diagnosis and treatment programs, optimised for diverse regions of the world. |
